The equipping of the monument dismantling area in the territory of Uzvaras Park in Rīga has begun, the Rīga City Council said August 22.

Tuesday night passed largely peacefully at the site just outside Narva where a Soviet-era tank monument was removed from its plinth earlier in the day, the Police and Border Guard Board (PPA) says, with members of the public congregating both at the tank's former location and elsewhere remaining under control.

Justice Minister Jānis Bordāns has asked for the inclusion of a new law on the ending of glorifying the Communist regime and russification in the agenda of the coalition meeting, LETA reported on August 13.
